REEL BIO
Prior to directing Charles Mehling spent several formative years working as a professional musician. He played bass guitar as a member of The Indians and The Brian Jones Town Massacre, the band featured in Dig – the 2004 Sundance Documentary Grand Jury Prize winner. Charles also worked as a lighting director for the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club on their first world tour. Camera in tow, Mehling documented the tour as it criss-crossed the planet. The resulting footage led to his first directing assignment, for the Black Motorcycle Club's debut video.
Charles has gone on to direct music videos for numerous bands and musicians, including The Kooks, The Script, the Stereophonics, and James Morrison, among others. He has also completed two music documentaries, one for The Music entitled The Music Live at the Blank Canvas in 2002, and one for Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini.
Charles broke into commercial directing with a campaign for Earle Jeans featuring supermodel Gisele Bundchen. Known for his ability to capture carefree, sexy, and natural moments on film, Charles' signature is pure glamour with a rock-and-roll edge.
His celebrity and supermodel portfolio includes Jennifer Aniston, Naomi Watts, Kate Moss, Karen Elson, Eva Herzigova, Amber Valletta, Angela Lindvall, Natalia Vodianova, Daria Werbowy, Georgia Jagger, and Lauren Hutton.
