The Stanford Prison Experiment.

Alvarez captures the sickly green and dingy gray environment, and even though he emphasizes the claustrophobic nature of the stuffy hallway, brings movement and dynamism to the space.

Modest and good-looking, the film starts as dark comedy and ends in pathos. Director Alvarez makes the Oregon scenery a character unto itself.

Writer/Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez holds the keen ability to craft a character-based, true-to-life performance from scratch.

This January, Kyle’s third film, The Stanford Prison Experiment, premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival where it won the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan award as well as the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.

Based on the Infamous Stanford University research experiment from the 70’s, the film stars Billy Crudup, Ezra Miller, Michael Angarano, Olivia Thirlby and Tye Sheridan.

His sophomore film, C.O.G., premiered in competition at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and was the first film ever based on a short story by David Sedaris.
C.O.G. was awarded the “Best New American Cinema” award at the Seattle Film Festival and was released by Focus Features.

In 2010, his directorial debut, Easier with Practice, won him the prestigious “Someone to Watch” Award at the Independent Spirit Awards and was also nominated for “Best First Feature”.
Kyle directed three episodes of the acclaimed Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, and is set to direct the upcoming wrestling drama Heels for Starz.
